I want to take a minute to update on the Little guy we all helped out last year. If you bought a ticket, shirt or just plain gave money this is who you helped.
From His Family,
At the Race4Life event Lucas was about a third of the way into his chemotherapy treatments. His treatment schedule was 15, 5 day cycles of chemotherapy every 3 weeks. Lucas did amazing through all of his treatments he never got sick and only slowed down in the last few days of each cycle. In the year it took to complete his treatments he grew 5 inches in height and put on 11 pounds! Lucas started growing his hair back around his 5th birthday and now has back a full head of hair, even had a couple of haircuts. Because of the lowered immunity that goes along with chemotherapy Lucas was approved to be taught through the Illinois state home bound program so he started kindergarten in Aug. A teacher comes to the house 4 days a week for Lucas to keep up with all the other 5 year olds. Lucas completed his treatments on Dec 9th 2010. His first post chemo PET scan showed no cancer. His family was elated to get the news. Lucas will continue to get scans every 3 months for at least a year and every 6 months for a time after. The type of Lymphoma Lucas had has a 25% chance of reoccurring in the the first 2 years after completed therapy. His family prays every day that it will stay away and he can focus on being a normal little boy. After Christmas he started playing basketball and hopes to play soccer next. He still loves Tony Stewart and can't get enough of racing! The Race4life event is a memory that will stay with Lucas and his parents for a life time. He talks about that day and all the people he met like it was the best day of his life. Thanks to everyone who helped make it such a special day. .
Thanks to everyone. Powri, the Racers, The fans and the people that gave to Lucas!
